FairCompare Privacy Policy
Updated September 27, 2026. Provider: Takamasa Hirayama. Contact: foundry941@gmail.com.
Version distinction: Version 1.0 builds 1–2 do not upload product entries or comparisons. Automatic contributions start with build 3, only after you allow them in the app. Installing an update does not grant permission or upload previous history.
Your choice, then automatic saves
You can scan, compare and keep local history without contributing. If you choose “Allow automatic contributions,” products you save from then on are queued and uploaded when the app is open and connected. There is no per-product Share step. Old entries are not automatically backfilled, although explicitly saving a previous product again while contributions are on can upload it.
Data collected
- Saved product names, brands, variants, product barcodes, category, package quantities, label nutrition values, prices, currency, store names, manual retailer offer details including shipping and discounts, and capture date.
- A random app-specific credential, whose cryptographic hash groups uploads and authorizes deletion. This is pseudonymous, not anonymous. It is not an advertising identifier or hardware fingerprint.
- Submission IDs, privacy-notice version, receipt/update timestamps, and review status.
We do not upload photos, raw OCR text, image coordinates, location, browser search history, comparison notes, contacts, payment information or other apps’ data. Product nutrition values describe products, not your health. Do not enter personal or sensitive information in product or store names. Saving a price does not mean you bought an item.
Purpose and access
FairCompare’s operator can review contributions in a restricted database console to check data quality and improve product comparisons. Entries are unverified, not trusted retailer prices. They are not published to other app users or a public listing endpoint in this version. We do not sell entries, use them for advertising, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Providers and technical information
Vercel hosts the upload API and this website. Neon provides the Postgres database, provisioned in Singapore. These providers process data to operate the service; processing may occur outside your country. They may process technical requests including IP addresses under their service policies. Our application does not log upload bodies or credentials. For abuse prevention, it stores a daily keyed hash of the requesting IP address and rate-limit counts, not the raw address, for approximately 48 hours plus the next daily cleanup.

Stop collection and delete uploads
Settings → Central product database → “Stop automatic contributions” stops future uploads and clears unsent entries. It does not erase existing uploads. “Delete my uploaded entries” stops sync and requests deletion of entries associated with this app’s credential. Offline deletion remains pending and retries while the app is open and connected. Keep the app installed until deletion is confirmed. Local products remain unchanged. Re-enabling contributions after confirmed deletion creates a new upload identity, without restoring old uploads.
Uninstalling alone does not request server deletion. If you lose access, contact support. Without the app’s credential we may be unable to associate records with you because contributions do not collect an account name or email; we will work with information you voluntarily provide.
Retention and security
Entries are removed from the active database after 180 days from first receipt during the next daily cleanup, or earlier after a successful deletion request. A minimal revoked-credential hash is retained to prevent delayed requests recreating deleted entries; it contains no deleted product content. Provider backups and technical logs may persist under provider retention schedules. Requests use HTTPS; database credentials stay on the server, not in the app. No security system is absolute.
On-device data and retailers
OCR runs on-device. Contributions are not cloud backup or cross-device restore. Removing the app removes local app data, subject to device backups. Amazon Japan and Rakuten browser searches include your search terms in the retailer URL and are governed by that retailer’s privacy policy. There is no automatic retailer price feed in the public app.
Support and changes
If you email support, we receive what you voluntarily include and use it to respond. Do not send passwords, payment information or API keys. We update this policy and App Store disclosures when practices change. A new contribution consent version requires a new choice before uploading resumes.
